Therapeutic Riding
Therapeutic riding is recreational therapy for disabled students to work on cognitive processing, participate in physical exercise, increase balance coordination, increase communication skills, and increase spiritual growth all while learning how to ride a horse.
Riders that could benefit from Therapeutic Riding have disabilities including, but are not limited to:
- Sensory Integration Disorder
- Down Syndrome
- Autism
- Cerebral Palsy
- Brain Injuries
- Birth Defects
- Attention Deficit Disorder
A typical therapeutic riding lesson might include: learning grooming saddling skills, games on horseback, pattern exercises, trail rides, and groundwork (such as leading the horse). Instructors are certified through PATH International.
Private Rides: 1 rider, 30 minutes – $40
Group Rides: 3-5 riders, 1 hour – $35 per rider (15 minutes for mounting, 15 minutes for dismounting, 30 minutes of riding)
Initial Evaluation: 30-45 minutes – $35
Evaluation is required for all beginning riders. Instructors will determine if client needs therapeutic riding based upon the evaluation. Please contact Kathy Wendt at kwendt@havenshorses.org if you need more information about classes.
