“Meeting the personal goals of children through horsemanship by teaching them the love and trust of God.”
Haven’s Horses program is located on the beautiful 150 acres at Christ’s Haven for Children, a residential foster home in Keller, TX. For over 15 years, the children of Christ’s Haven have ridden horses and worked with cattle.
Today’s cattle herd consist of old line pure bred Beef Masters crossed back on Angus sires. Several calves are sold at weaning while other choice cattle are put into our grass fed beef program. Our horses consist of a variety of Foundation Bred Quarter Horses and an Arabian Cross.
In the fall of 2008, Christ’s Haven for Children expanded it’s cattle and horse program by offering classes to the local community and developed Haven’s Horses. In 2009, Haven’s Horses became a member of NARHA and began therapeutic riding classes for disabled children that dream of riding a horse.
It is our mission at Haven’s Horses to offer horsemanship classes while sharing the love and hope of Jesus Christ with children. We use a relationship with a horse to learn more about our relationship with God and what the bible says about the basics of life.
Note from the Director:
“Children are searching for a dependable relationship that will accept them for who they are. What they find from a horse is honesty, trust, courage, respect, dependability, and the truth. A horse often reflects the feelings of a child, which allowing him/her to openly express feelings and to feel safe. At Haven’s Horses, we strive to impact children in more than just a physical and emotional bond with a horse. We show children how a relationship with a horse can bring them closer to God and impact their lives spiritually in a powerful way.
As a child, I found something mystifying about horses – their free spirit. Throughout my life, I have followed that freedom which led me to be the person that I am. A horse can look into the heart of a person; there is no hiding the way you feel from them. I thank God for the beautiful animal he has given to us to teach us more about Him and who He made us to be.”
